The Metropolitan Downtown
The Metropolitan Downtown is a high-end restaurant and event space in Cheyenne, WY. Katy Rinne worked closely with the project's owners as the lead designer and director of business development. The project encompassed three previously vacant buildings, totaling nearly 14,000 square feet, and centered on a goal of creating a new hospitality and entertainment hub with an atmosphere that invites guests to linger and enjoy.
The design concept focused on the feeling and meaning of the name, ‘The Metropolitan’. This is represented with the moodiness of blacks and greys used, the glint of light and gold reflections found throughout, the rawness of materials like existing brick and steel for the bartop and door casings. Rich woods and plush, green velvet round out the space to provide warmth and a sense of nature.
Central Cafe
The vision for Central Cafe was fostered out of a love of the neighborhood the owner grew up in. Reminiscent of riding a bike to the neighborhood filling station at the exact location of today’s Central Cafe, Katy was tasked with creating a gathering place for neighbors, locals, and tourists alike, to meet and enjoy a cup of coffee.
Katy took inspiration from the neighborhood and its mix of 1920’s bungalows to mid-century modern homes and added painted brick and columns to the former gas station’s facade. For the interior, the space was completely gutted and reworked to feel as though it was the original garage converted. The decor followed a French-industrial style, with elements of grit, exposed brick, and concrete floors, intertwined with elevated finishes, marble countertops, and oversized brass light fixtures.
